Folks,
Wow. Great to see such activity on the thread again...
JimJimBinks asks...
Have you heard anything about how many 2 disc versions of the DVD were sold vs. how many single disc versions?
I'm really hoping they sold enough that WB will want you on the sequel.
It's usually 80% single disc, with only 20% of the double-disc versions. That simply the reality for ALL DVDs these days. Get your two-disc THE DEPARTED today people. I'm STILL looking for the double-disc Flight 93!
Also, at the end of the day who ends up owning all the footage shot for Requiem? WB, or Ludovico Technique.
Well...technically, WB Home Video owns it all...but I take my cues from Bryan Singer...and he said hold onto all of it. Almost seven hundred hours worth of stuff.
ec86 wants to know how long each day was. Usually about 12 to 16 hours. I usually got to work between seven and eight and left the studio between eight and nine. Unless days went longer.
Jedisithor...hmmm...where to begin...
I happen to enjoy set construction. I think Guy Dyas is one talented dude.
Yes...there's nothing on post-production. As someone who directed THE MAKING OF TRON, believe me...I know all about post. But you're correct, if I was allowed 2 discs of special features, you'd have seen A LOT about post. However, as it stands, I'm proud of the doc and the the work we did.
I'm also proud of the entire disc. Seldom do you get completely finished deleted scenes...which are mixed and scored...and in HD!
When I asked, suits at Warners gave me three hours for the doc instead of two, which was pretty great of them.
Angeloz asks if I'm coming back to work on the sequel. The answer is...I'm ALREADY working on the sequel. Bryan, Brandon and the whole merry bunch will be coming back...and filming will probably begin March, 2008, as was always planned from the beginning. The WWII film Bryan plans to shoot over the summer will have NO EFFECT whatsoever on the Superman sequel schedule.
Regarding the music video contained on the SR soundtrack which also turned up on the Web...I did that too!
I am Superman wants to know about Brandon's shaving habits....
I never actually saw Brandon shave, but I assume he did so himself. But the makeup dept. would if Brandon didn't. His hair was constantly styled and trimmed.
Everyone wants to know about the RETURN TO KRYPTON scene. Since it's in MY version of SR...I'd say "who cares?" But I'd imagine you'd see it in the extended edition of SUPERMAN RETURNS sometime around the holidays, 2008. However...and let me be very clear about this...the studio currently has NO PLANS to release an extended version of the film.
Jedisithor once again says REQUIEM FOR KRYPTON is a very "Average" documentary, especially compared to the LOTR and STAR WARS docs...
Well, Jedi, those are the single best documentaries ever created specifically for DVD (I also love the CLEOPATRA and BEHIND THE PLANET OF THE APES docs). They also cost the most. The budget for the bonus features for the RETURN OF THE KING extended edition were almost FIFTEEN TIMES the budget of "Requiem for Krypton." That said, I think we have way better on-set footage then either of those docs.
You also say, "but the Star Wars and LOTR dvd's set a standard and the SR dvd sadly falls well short of that standard." I agree...those discs ARE the gold standard. And they had gold budgets to do those DVDs. We did the best we could with what we had. Which, comparitively speaking, wasn't much.
Finally, Jedisithor wants to know why the domestic Kryptin had the blog disc and the rest of the world's set doesn't...
My answer is...I really don't know. However, different countries frequently release different DVDs. That's why I have two multiregion players and Amazon.com accounts in the US, Japan and the UK. I just buy whichever version is best.
Tell Justin he should post the two blogs on Blue Tights. Or at least on YouTube.
Have a better day and keep the questions coming!!!
