Yeah, it's kinda cool. Although he's not as bulky as George Reeves was I like Alyn's hairstyle better.

Now that's a sweet picture of Alyn as the Man of Steel. Thanks for posting it.

Are there in George Reeves/Superman pics out there that are of the same quality?

I just picked up this original image, a movie collector was selling it for $4 because it was badly damaged... I took time over the weekend scanning it in and restoring it. I'll go through my collection and see if I have any of George Reeves as Superman that I can restore and post here.

Man, what is that? Wool? That's the kind of stuff I need for the Bluewing serial.

It's probably wool. George Reeves' suit was made of it, too. (In fact, Reeves had to wear Alyn's boots for the first two years of the series.)
Then again, Alyn didn't have to wear 20-pound shoulder pads like Reeves did (DC thought his shoulders sloped too much). I guess he was lucky that way.

Ha ha Reeves was really skinny in the earlier black and white episodes. But he did fill out as the years went by.
Alyn's costume looks like he had his shoulders padded a good bit though.
And yes his spit curl was awesome, but he didn't have George's chin. And what a chin it was. Plus Reeves handle the role a lot better than Alyn did.
He was far more comfortable playing the role.more regal.
Alyn was a little too broad.
But there both great.

That doesn't surprise me. The show was originally intended for Alyn, but he declined the offer to star in it.

Alyn was quite heavy into weight training at the time, so he didn't require any rubber muscles.

All right, I was looking around to see if Columbia Pictures was planning to release a DVD set of the complete "Superman" serial with Kirk Alyn (they recently put out the Columbia "Batman" 1949 serial on DVD), and I happened across this plot summary description of an out of print VHS collection on Amazon.com.
Clearly, the poor reviewer didn't check his/her spelling. Hilarity follows.
"On Earth in a small town a farmer and his wife witness some sort of spacecraft come out of the sky and land on the ground! The farmer opens the spacecraft and finds a baby boy raped in fireproof blankets, the farmer and his wife adopted the boy that came out of the sky and name him Clark Kent. It's not long after Clark starts to grow, he learns he is no ordinary boy and can perform impossible deeds! When Clark grows up he vow's to his foster parents that he will use his powers for truth justice and the American way! His foster mother give's him a suit that she made from the blankets Clark was raped in when he first came to Earth. He tells them he will wear it only when he is SUPERMAN!"

I've got a VHS tape of the Supes vs. Atom Man serial. I can't remember when or how I came to have it, but it's there.
