London Has the Olympics Yay!
London beats Paris to 2012 Games

Live Olympics reporters' log
The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London, the International Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday.
London won a two-way fight with Paris by 54 votes to 50 at the IOC meeting in Singapore, after bids from Moscow, New York and Madrid were eliminated.
Paris had been favourites throughout the campaign but London's hopes were raised after an impressive presentation by Lord Coe, the bid chairman. IOC president Jacques Rogge made the dramatic announcement at 1249 BST. It will be the first time the Olympics has been held in Britain since 1948.
That's our taxes going up then?

Consider it raised
I'm actually glad we weren't picked for the Winter Olympic this time.. We spent HUGE ammounts of cash on the last one..

Yeah that's my worry and someone will have to pay for it. Namely the hardworking (ahem) taxpayers.
It is good that we have the event though, it does create a good atmosphere throughout the whole country when we have events like this.
We had the Commonwealth games here in Manchester a few years back, and I was amazed at the lenghts the city council went to, to clean up the city centre.
Instead of pulling down derelict buildings they painted them turquoize. A whole building including windows!
Every homeless person, and big issue seller disappeared from sight for the duration of the event. I had an image of them all holed up in a big shack in Wales until it was over.
Let's just hope we don't waste as much money on it as we did with that circus tent millenium diafram.

Saw that, like 20 minutes ago...seeing the people in New York not get it was funny, why would the Olympics go there, when someplace like London is available?
Good choice
